The 5 Most Common Mistakes You Do in Greek

If you’re studying Greek, you’ll make mistakes. But don’t worry—that’s how we learn!
In today’s lesson, we’re breaking down the five most common mistakes Greek learners make and how to fix them.
Ready? Let’s get started!

Mistake in Greek #1

Γεια σου, Κώστας. (wrong)
Γεια σου, Κώστα. (right)

Because when we address someone, we drop the article and the last -s from the name

Mistake in Greek #2

Με λένε Κώστας. (wrong)
Με λένε Κώστα. (right)

Because after the phrase “Με λένε” we drop the article and the last -s from the name

Mistake in Greek #3

Βλέπω o άντρας. (wrong)
Βλέπω τον άντρα.  (right)

Because the man is the WHAT I see,so it should be accusative. It’s the object of βλέπω

Mistake in Greek #4

Θα πάω στην παραλία στο σαββατοκύριακο. (wrong)
Θα πάω στην παραλία το σαββατοκύριακο. (right)

Because “at the weekend” is a time phrase in Greek and it’s expressed by an accusative (“το σαββατοκύριακο”) and not by a preposition (at) like in English.

Mistake in Greek #5

Τρώω πρωινό στο πρωί. (wrong)
Τρώω πρωινό το πρωί. (right)

Because “in the morning” is a time phrase in Greek and it’s expressed by an accusative (“το πρωί”) and not by a preposition (in) like in English.
