Top 10 Mistakes Greek Learners Must Avoid!

TRANSCRIPT

If you’re starting to learn Greek or have been at it for a while, this guide is for you!
Today, we’ll explore 10 common mistakes beginner Greek learners make. These can trip you up, but don’t worry—I’m here to help you avoid them!

🔠 Mistake 1: Mispronouncing the Greek Alphabet

Greek has some tricky letters for English speakers!
🔹 Γ (gamma) ➝ Not a hard “g” like in “go,” but a soft “gh” or “y” sound.
🔹 Δ (delta) ➝ Not “d” but a soft “th” sound (like “this” or “that”).

🎧 Tip: Practice these sounds with native speakers or audio resources!

🎯 Mistake 2: Confusing Greek Accents

Greek has one accent mark (´) that shows where the stress falls in a word.
🚨 Ignoring it can change the meaning!
🔸 μήλο (mílo) = apple 🍏
🔸 μιλώ (miló) = I speak 🗣️

📌 Big difference, right? Always pay attention to accents!
