Greek Meze Explained: 8 Traditional Dishes You Need to Try

Transcript

You sit down at a Greek taverna, order a drink, and suddenly — the table starts filling up with small plates. Welcome to the meze experience — the most delicious way to share a meal in Greece. Today, we're tasting and exploring the stories behind some of the most iconic Greek meze dishes! Let’s get started!

1. Tzatziki – The Cool Classic

Let’s start with my favorite: tzatziki. Yogurt, cucumber, garlic, olive oil.

History Bite:

Tzatziki has roots going all the way back to the Ottoman Empire. The word tzatziki comes from the Turkish word cacık. It’s on every Greek table — both a dip and a sauce, perfect with grilled meats or warm bread.

Best With: Pita, souvlaki, or just a spoon!
