Stop Saying ‘Ti Kaneis’ — 7 Better Ways to Say ‘How Are You’ in Greek!

Hello everyone, I’m Thanasis and welcome back to Better Greek!

Today we’re checking 7 REAL ways to say “How are you?” in Greek and sound like a local! Let’s get started!

1. Τι λέει;

This one literally means “What does it say?” but in everyday Greek, it’s like saying “How’s it going?”

Example:

  • • Τι λέει ρε φίλε; (What’s up, man?)

2. Τι γίνεται;

Literally “What’s happening?” — and it’s one of the most common greetings in Greek.

Example:

  • • Γεια σου, Νίκο! Τι γίνεται; (Hey, Nikos! What’s up?)

You’ll often hear it together with:

👉 Τι γίνεται; Όλα καλά; (What’s up? Everything good?)
