How Greeks Really Use Καλά — It’s Not Just “Good”!

Hello everyone, I’m Thanasis and welcome back to Better Greek!

Today, we’re exploring some cool Greek expressions with the word καλά! Whether you're thanking someone, talking about success, or even telling someone to mind their own business, καλά has got you covered!

Let’s get started!

1️⃣ Να ‘σαι καλά / Να ‘στε καλά – "You’re welcome!"

This phrase literally means 'Be well!' and is the most common way to respond to ευχαριστώ (thank you).

Example:

  • • Ορίστε ο καφές σου. (Here’s your coffee.)
  • • Ευχαριστώ! (Thanks!)
  • • Να ‘σαι καλά! (You’re welcome!)

2️⃣ Τα πάω καλά – "I’m doing well"

If you’re doing well in something, like school or work, you can say Τα πάω καλά!

Example:

  • • Η Μαρία τα πάει πολύ καλά στο πανεπιστήμιο!

English:

• Maria is doing really well at university! 🎓
