Type A Verbs in Greek: A Beginner’s Grammar Guide!

TRANSCRIPT

👋 Hello everyone, I’m Thanasis, and welcome back to Better Greek!

Today, we’ll have a Grammar lesson about verbs! When you speak Greek, you need to use verbs. The first type of verbs you need to know are called A verbs, and all the most common verbs in Greek are A verbs.

By the end of this video, you’ll know how to use and conjugate all the most common Greek verbs so that you can use them in your speaking!

👉 Let’s get started!

🔹 Type A Verbs in Greek

Generally, when we introduce a verb, we don’t say it like in English (e.g., “to be”, “to do”, “to work”). 🔹 Instead, we say it in the 1st person:
✔ “I am” instead of “to be”
✔ “I do” instead of “to do”
✔ “I work” instead of “to work”

✨ Example: The Verb "I live" - μένω (meno)

Let’s see the verb “I live” in Greek: μένω (meno)
μένω is an A verb because it ends in -ω.

📌 All verbs that end in -ω are called A verbs.
